Utah Mosin Nagant Challenge VII - November 7th 2015

Welcome to one of the funnest shooting competitions around.  At least the funnest one in Kaysville, UT on the afternoon of the 7th of November.  Below you will find the details on the 7th Utah Mosin Nagant Challenge.

Utah Mosin Nagant Challenge VII

Fee - $7 for WSA members, $17 for non members (range fee for entire day)

The competition will begin at 1 pm with a run down of the competition rules and safety guidelines. There will be a warm-up and sight in time before the scoring begins.  The competition will consist of 4 stages using a stock Mosin Nagant shooting the 7.62x54r round.  We have opened this competition due to demand and requests to include 91/30, the M44, and if you got another variant that is bolt action, non-modified stock rifle with iron sights only.  This competition started from a friendly competitive natured event using that famous, cheap, overstocked, sometimes rusty, 91/30 that you could pick up for under $100.  Its great to see what you can do with a 80+ year old rifle and surplus rifle.  Since their seem to be fewer of these rifles available and many variants out there with many people interested, let's see what you have.

Stage 1 - 50 yards standing (its a heavy gun stage)
10 rounds to be taken at 50 yards.  We will be using the target pictured below to score.  Targets will be provided at the competition.
Stage 2 - 75 yards bench rest timed event (fast shooting stage)
10 rounds to be taken from a bench rest.  This will be a timed event and exact rules and time will be presented at the competition.  Being 10 rounds, it will require reloading of some kind.  A well oiled gun will be helpful.

Stage 3 - 100 yards bench rest  (accuracy stage)
10 round for accuracy from the bench, open sights.  No scoping or optics to be used at any time of the competition.  10 rounds on paper are needed to score well on this round.

Stage 4 - >100 yards sniper challenge (kick the can stage)
1 to 5 rounds for this stage.  For this stage the fewer shots you take the more points you score.  We usually use a regular soda can and place it on the back stop at about 110 yards.  Take out the can in 1 shot, a bunch of point.  Take it in 2 shots, a few less points, Don't take it out at all, 0 points.  You get the idea.  This is the stage that can make or break the winner of the competition.

We usually have a few other fun, non-scoring challenges during the event.  The Nagant pistol has quickly become a favorite.  I will usually have a little something for the winner of the side challenges and for with UMNC winner.  Its all about having fun, and we have always been successful at having fun doing this.
